Today's travel went smoothly. We paid 45 pounds/$60 and had a driver take us all and a massive load of baggage to St Pancras Station rather than take the train as we had originally intended. It turned out to be a good decision as the underground on our line had severe disruptions all morning. Traffic was heavy and our driver took all the back streets to get us to St Pancras railway station in plenty of time to board our train. The St Pancras Railway is like no other train station in the world. It is huge, totally redeveloped and gothic in its design but a written explanation would never do it justice and unfortunately the photographer had left his camera in his bag.
Today was London’s hottest day for the year 18c. We left in sunshine and it stayed that way all the way to Paris. So far weather has been great.
The train trip was excellent, much less stress than catching a plane. Also, they had no restrictions on how much luggage you have which was fortunate for us with our massive load. Our driver had asked if we were emigrating.
We got to our unit without fuss and have settled in nicely. We have gone from a spacious ultra modern 2 bedroom unit in a nice suburb but far away from the centre of the city (London) to a pokey old 2 bedroom unit (clean) but in a fantastic position. A great bakery at our front door, a supermarket around the corner and the George Pompidou Centre down the street. All in a very safe area. Au Revoir
