Happy Easter

Today was spent relaxing in Positano.  It rained for most of the morning. We walked around with an umbrella.  We checked out the cute shops and Colene had a visit to the hairdresser.  We then explored the town.
Positano has 1 street that goes  from the beach to the very top. It is a one way narrow street that does a big loop. It took us about 2 hours to complete the lap and of course  Michael took photos along the way – more amazing views.  We stopped at the top of the town for a coffee and some cake at the cafe where the locals go. It was a lot cheaper than in the tourist area down below and had a fantastic Italian atmosphere and products.
We ended the day at a restaurant overlooking Positano, it was too cold to sit on the balcony so sat inside by the window and had some great fresh grilled scallops, seafood risotto and lobster.
During the night we have had a big storm with lots of rain, thunder and lightning but this morning looks ok although a little cloudy.  We were told that it rains every Easter weekend.  The Easter Bunny came.
Happy Easter

With only one street, its hard to get lost. You are either look up or down.
Having coffee with the locals.

Day 1 positano

Yesterday was Good Friday and we didn’t know what to expect when travelling around Italy. It was no problem at all, lots of people around and everything open. We were out of the hotel by 7:30am to catch a train to Naples.  Once again, our trip went well, the trains are very comfortable. Our Driver was there to meet us.  He had spent some time living in Williamstown so his English was great and he was very interesting. His whole family lives in Positano.
Our first stop was Pompeii .  The ruins are much larger than we anticipated. Vesuvius is  very close to both Naples and Pompeii.
The ruins were fascinating and we spent a couple of hours wandering around there. Our drive to Positano was great. We passed Sorrento and then through the mountains and down to Positano. The drive is similar to our Great Ocean Road but much more spectacular.
Our hotel and the town are impressive as the photos show. The paths are very steep and you can pay 10 euro for someone with a  trolley machine to transport your luggage to your hotel, well worth it.
We enjoyed sipping some champagne on the balcony overlooking the town and beach.
We plan to spend the next 2 days taking it easy as the early starts and all the walking has tired us out, What a beautiful place to relax.
There are lots of Americans here.  The town is well known for its seafood. We had a very nice dinner by the beach. Our meal cost 78 euro which included lobster, seafood risotto, wine, tiramsu and coffee. Best value so far on our trip.
Our hotel Villa La Tartana is absolutely beautiful. It has a very seaside feel.

A pompeii casualty..
