Today was spent travelling to Venice. From our past experience of walking through the
Milan Central Station, we were slightly apprehensive. However there were lots of police and railway attendants and our train trip was uneventful. There were only 8 other passengers on our carriage so it was great to get some quality quiet time. The train trip took 2 hours and it was interesting to see some of Italy's countryside. We are still amazed at how much farming area there is considering how small Italy is and how large its' population. Our funny event for the day was when the attendant asked if we wanted a drink. Colene decided on a champagne. The attendant opened a new bottle and poured Colene a glass, and then quickly poured another glass and drank it himself.
We arrived safely at Venice's Santa Lucia Train terminal and we knew that with our luggage in toe it wasn’t going to be an easy walk to our hotel. We decided to catch a water taxi and while the 70 euros was quite steep but normal for a 15 minute scenic trip, we were glad to arrive at the front door. The rest of the afternoon was spent exploring San Marco Square and meandering through the maze of alley ways.
The weather today was the coldest it has been, it was overcast and about 15, so we were glad we didn’t send all our winter clothes home.
We had an early evening meal and decided on an early night. Tomorrow we will spend exploring the rest of Venice.
Ciao
The only way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon
The alley ways are very narrow.
But not the waterways
That's the front door to our hotel. No you don't have to walk on water to get in, there is a dry entrance as well. Our balcony is just left of the ones you see.
Million dollar view.
