SIGHTSEEING AROUND SOMERSET

Everyone was a bit slow getting out of bed today. Outside was a pea soup fog which lasted most of the day.
We set off for Shepton Mallet for Tesco the local supermarkets and once again the GPS wanted to take us somewhere else or at least the long way.  Tesco has everything on offer.... prices are similar to Oz because of a good exchange rate. Beer is very cheap. Chris bought some Cider which originated in this region and it is much smoother than the cider from home - Andrew and I both agree.
The workmen arrived and started putting up the Marque for Chris and Charlotte's wedding this Saturday.
We drove along very narrow streets and the speed limit is 60mph (100kph) which is impossible to do safely..
We then went to Wells, which is the smallest city in England. The cathedral was amazing. There is also a Bishop's Palace which has a real moat around it.  The streetscape is typical English village and we even had an authentic Cornish Pasty, yes Pasty not pastie.
Of course the boys had to have a pint in the "Crown Inn" the doors certainly make you look like basketballers. And the girls did some shopping, fair exchange...
From there we went through a massive gorge and on to Cheddar, once again a feast for your eyes and of course camera heaven.
Shopping count.
Colene- 1 top, some tea towels
Michael -1 leather belt...  cheap and good quality. Left his belt at home....
Karina ..slipper socks
Andrew....
Every where we go we are asked where are we from and a lot of locals either have been to Oz or have relatives living there, everyone is very friendly.
Started to get very cold. So we ventured back to the Old Parlour, booked Mother's Day lunch in the local Pub and then enjoyed a hearty stew made by Chis. The girls are putting some finishing touches to Charlotte's Wedding plans and then we are having an early night. Tomorrow we are off to Bath. Still foggy tonight.... Good Night.
