Yesterday was Good Friday and we didn’t know what to expect
when travelling around Italy. It was no problem at all, lots of people around
and everything open. We were out of the hotel by 7:30am to catch a train to
Naples. Once again, our trip went well,
the trains are very comfortable. Our Driver was there to meet us. He had spent some time living in Williamstown
so his English was great and he was very interesting. His whole family lives in
Positano.
Our first stop was
Pompeii . The ruins are much larger than
we anticipated. Vesuvius is very close
to both Naples and Pompeii.
The ruins were fascinating and we spent a couple of hours
wandering around there. Our drive to Positano was great. We passed Sorrento and
then through the mountains and down to Positano. The drive is similar to our
Great Ocean Road but much more spectacular.
Our hotel and the town are impressive as the photos show. The
paths are very steep and you can pay 10 euro for someone with a trolley machine to transport your luggage to
your hotel, well worth it.
We enjoyed sipping some champagne on the balcony overlooking
the town and beach.
We plan to spend the next 2 days taking it easy as the early
starts and all the walking has tired us out, What a beautiful place to relax.
There are lots of Americans here. The town is well known for its seafood. We
had a very nice dinner by the beach. Our meal cost 78 euro which included lobster,
seafood risotto, wine, tiramsu and coffee. Best value so far on our trip.
Our hotel Villa La Tartana is absolutely beautiful. It has a very seaside feel.
A pompeii casualty..
Coming into Positano
Our Driver with a rather large lemon and it is actually that big
A room with a view...
The champagne tastes better when a view is added.
Our room is in the middle of the picture, lowest dark red building last window on right with shutters closed, Ha...........straight down from last dot........
Our 78 euro meal. lovely.
Night view from our balcony
